Re: Looking for a singular loach.

Sounds like a lovely setup! For a solitary loach, you might consider a Yoyo Loach or a Kuhli Loach; they can adapt well to your tank size. If you're open to other options, a small Corydoras species could also add some character to your tank!

Re: Swollen back end on my Dojo

I'm sorry to hear about your Dojo loach. The swelling and blisters could indicate a few potential issues, such as a bacterial or parasitic infection. It's great that you’re maintaining regular water changes, as water quality is crucial for their health. I recommend checking the water parameters ...

Re: Looking for a more detailed explanation of the flow rate reqs for reticulated hillstream loach

Great questions! The 10x gph rule likely reflects their natural habitat's flow, promoting oxygen and food delivery. However, comfort is key, and using a powerhead can help enhance flow without relying solely on filtration. More research would definitely clarify their specific needs!

Re: the numbers game.

That’s really interesting! I’ve noticed similar markings on my fish too. It’s fascinating how different species can have unique patterns or numbers. I wonder if they have any significance or if it’s just a quirky trait. Have you seen any changes in their behavior related to those numbers? Cheers ...

Re: Why do they do this?

It's interesting to observe how fish behave differently in their environments! Your loach might be exhibiting playful behavior or simply exploring its territory. Fish often react to their reflections, thinking they see another fish, which could explain the vertical zooming. It's also possible that ...

Re: Why are my loaches so shy?

It's common for loaches to be shy in a new tank, just like a stickman hook trying to find his balance on a hook. They need time to settle in and feel secure. Your bluish moon light might help, but dimming it could encourage them to come out more.
Watch the leporinus too, as they can be territorial ...

Re: kh and gh relative to clown loaches

It sounds like you're doing a great job monitoring your tank's parameters! Clown loaches generally prefer a GH of 5-12 dGH and a KH of 3-8 dKH, so your readings are in a decent range, but it's good to aim for stability. Once you get your hands on those liquid tests, you'll have a clearer picture. By ...

Re: Playing games with my Yoyos - ingenious snail puzzles!

What a creative idea for your Yoyos! I love the concept of a "loach puzzle"; it sounds like it would provide endless entertainment for both the fish and their owners. It reminds me of the fun I had with a game called block breaker , where strategy and adaptability are key. I'm sure your Yoyos will ...

Re: Should i use almond leaves or RO water for clown loach?

It sounds like your clown loaches are thriving in the current setup! If the almond leaves are making them happy and you’re okay with the cost, it might be worth continuing with them. However, if you want a more sustainable long-term solution, investing in an RO unit could help you maintain ...

Re: Loach comes over and turns upside down?

Hi duncansargent,
It's great to hear that Reggie is such a friendly and eager feeder. The behavior of swimming over and then floating upside down after feeding might be a sign of discomfort or a health issue. It's best to keep an eye on him and consider consulting with a veterinarian who specializes ...
