Flake food
My Yoyo's have learned to take flake food from the surface. I only feed that tank flakes about twice per week, mainly for the gourami and danios. At the same time as the flake I add Hikari sinking pellets for the loaches, but the loaches now seem to be overlooking the sinking pellets and going up fo...

Increasing school size
I started my 75G with low numbers of each fish so I could wait and see how they all interacted and adjust numbers to suit. Currently I have 5 Yoyo loaches, 1 gold gourami, a SAE and 5 zebra danios. I want to add two more Yoyo's. My current Yoyo's range from 1-3/4" to 2-1/2". The LFS has some ranging...

He probably is the closest to the zebrinus, now I look again. I always thought his stripes were too close, but perhaps it's an age thing. Ashleigh - love the link, and the food looks pretty tasty (for fish ) I do have to admit that I don't spend that much time preparing food for my human famil...

Gastromyzon ID
Any clues as to this guy's species name? http://i215.photobucket.com/albums/cc216/kb46_2007/Gastromyzon1.jpg http://i215.photobucket.com/albums/cc216/kb46_2007/Gastromyzon2.jpg I thought he might be an SK01 except his stripes are thinner and he seems to have more than the profile picture. The markin...

I don' t want to put it outside because I'm concerned about mosquito spraying. Perhaps sealing the cup with glad wrap would work? The window I chose is the only one out of reach of inquisitive toddler fingers. They do get a lot of light but direct sun hits them only a couple of hours late afternoon....

What age do Yoyo's reach adult length?
I have some yoyo loaches ranging in size from 1" to almost 2". Four of them grew from 1" to 2" over the last month while the last small one has grown only a little (maybe 1/4"?). I've read that botias that are collected smaller than 2" are susceptible to internal parasites. All of mine look healthy ...

Growing algae for food
Can anyone give me some tips on growing algae for my hillstream loach (gastromyzon sp.)? I have had a few rocks in cups of old tank water on the window sill for a week but there's hardly a slimy feel to them yet, let alone any sign of green. Should I just be a bit more patient or are there some thin...

Your other solution aside from Melafix is plenty of water changes. I have v high nitrates (>160ppm) & nitrites (1.6ppm) in my water supply which means I have to be very cautious about increasing size/freq of water changes. Will watch hardness & pH as I add leaves. As for mozzie spraying - they do f...

Using Indian Almond Leaves
I've read that you can use IAL to help prevent bacterial infections at about 1 leaf for 50 litres of water. I don't have access to Melafix right now and one of my SAE's has a wound either side at the base of his tail (as if he got it caught swimming through somewhere narrow). I do have an Indian Alm...

Gastromyzon - schooling species?
I have an identified Gastomyzon who seems very "happy" in that he moves all over the tank and seems to almost always grazing. I saw a couple of profiles for hillstream loaches that said they were schooling species. Should I be getting mine some buddies to make him more comfortable? Also, the picture...
