Yes, they have always been more active during a rain storm - it did actually start to rain in the night here. He must have gotten out around where my filter flows in but I never thought he would ever manage to get out there. I have heard stories about them doing that but I have had two dojos for so ...

Emergency - dojo loach found on floor in another room!

I just woke up today to find my dojo loach in our computer room - in all the years I've had two of these loaches they have never escaped. I picked him up and put him back in the tank but he doesn't look too good - he is alive and is breathing heavily but one of his eyes looks a little pop-eyed and h...

Yes, I did do a few more partial water changes - more than I usually would for general maintenance, as suggested so maybe that helped with the healing process.

Update: Dojo's skin lesion finally healing!

For anyone interested, I posted this link a month ago to see if anyone could help me identify this problem. I treated the tank with melafix but that didn't seem to help. Now, about a month later, the swelling and redness have gone down and the lesion is almost completely healed! I'm not sure what th...

Oh my gosh, I hope he doesn't have a parasite! Yes, it is sunken in the middle and raised around the edges. I thought that the white edge was just the edge of his skin? I do have a hospital tank I could put him in but how do I know for certain that it is a parasite? Is that the way that they look? I...

Pic of skin lesion on my dojo

Hi - I posted last week about my dojo loach's skin lesion. I now have some pictures posted at the link below. I treated the tank with melafix for 7 days and did a number of partial water changes - his lesion has not really improved. If anyone has any other ideas about what this lesion could be or ho...

I am no expert and don't have all the answers to your questions but my Dad had a Yo Yo for the longest time in his 20 gallon aquarium. He only had one and this guy definitly had a territory - liked to sit on this one rock - he chased everyone away from that rock when they swam near. Besides that, he...

Ok - thanks - that makes me feel better. I wasn't sure if the melafix would get more concentrated over the 7 days or not so that makes me feel better. If it just a bacterial ulcer then hopefully the treatment will help close the wound so that it will heal. Unless it is something else - we will find ...

After adding the melafix, nobody seems to be having an adverse reactions - but it says to repeat the treatment for 7 days and this is only day 1. Not sure if this was a bad idea but I decided not to transfer my loach to the hospital tank because he seems to get stressed out easily so I didn't want t...

salt vs. melafix

In my previous post I have been seeking advice on how to treat a red lesion on my dojo loach. Some people say to use caution with melafix (this is the first day I have added melafix) - would salt be better? I have read that salt can also irritate the scaleless skin of loaches. Does anybody have any ...

I will try more regular water changes as suggested. I think I'll still stick with the melafix first, even though I feel a little uneasy about it. I do have gravel and it seems pretty smooth but it is possible that there may be a rough piece in there? This loach of mine is extremely active (I have tw...

When I read the information on the back it says it is safe for scaleless fish like clown loaches so I assumed it would be ok for my dojo.

I hope it doesn't bother him! If anyone else has had poor results with this then let me know. Thanks!
