Hi Keith Clown loaches are my favorite fish by far, but my tank is not big enough to house them in the long term. The only loaches available in Australia are Clowns, Khuli's, Yoyo's and Sids. I have never seen a sid except in pictures, but am strongly considering getting some if I cant have the clow...

From the link you supplied, it shows a picture of a Yasuhikotakia nigrolineata with a profile on the Yasuhikotakia sidthimunki . Juvenile Yasuhikotakia sidthimunki have less of a chain pattern on the top half of their body. When they grow and mature they show more chain patterns on them and with so...

My sids are usually hiding. This seems to not be the norm, however, these guys are supposed to be out and about. Seems odd. Do you have any idea why? Are there any larger or aggressive fish in the tank? Do you have dither fish in their tank? Cichlids next door? Or bright lighting? Sparse planting o...

Dwarf Loach ID
I found this on the net and I am wondering if it is correct or not. The information doesn't match what I see here. Is this perhaps Y. nigrolineata? I just read Martin's article on the differences. Do Sids markings disappear as an adult? http://animal-world.com/encyclo/fresh/loaches/DwarfLoach.php To...

Thanks for all the feedback, guys! Perhaps a heavily planted corner of the tank with Honey/Sunset gourami's might work, if these are less aggressive. That will give them their own space without compromising the environment of the loaches and rainbowfish. It's funny, I had fishtanks decades ago, and ...

Compatibility questions
Has anyone here kept Clowns and Sids together? What was the social structure like? Did they hang out together, or ignore each other? Also, I'd like to know if rainbow fish and dwarf gourami's would be good tankmates for each other and some loaches, either Sids, Clowns, or both. Can dwarf gourami's b...

Hi Robert I'm from NSW Central West. I went back to my two LFSs today. I did find one of them had Botia kubatai in stock. I had them check with "Bayfish" and they are able to get Sids. 3 cm long ones for $16 each by the time they are shipped to NSW. Emma, I'd like to have a 12 acre block with a mano...

Emma, my tank is an Aqua One 620T. It is 620mm (25")wide x 390 (16") x 600 (24'). I know the height is not ideal for loaches. Wider would have been better, but too late now. Graeme, this is great info and precisely what I was looking for. The availability of a Sid surprised me as it is critically en...

Loach availability in Australia
Hi everyone! I'm new here....come to do some research. I've recently purchased a 30 gal tank and am researching what to put in it. I'd love to have some loaches but clowns grow so big. I'm considering Zebra loach, Burmese loach, Polkadot loach or Bengal loach as an alternative. The dwarf loach would...
