Suggestions on Loach Shelters
I have a 30g tank with dwarf loaches (Yasuhikotakia sidthimunki). I have a piece of driftwood that the loaches hide under but I want to get rid of it so I was hoping someone would know some good alternatives. I was thinking of some type of clay pots but I'm not sure how that would work. Thanks for t...

Gourami and loaches compatible?
Hello, since many of the people here have loaches, I was also wondering if anyone keeps any type of gourami with the loaches as well. I have a planted 30 gallon tank with: 1 pearl gourami 6 harlequin rasboras 10 dwarf loaches Initially my pearl gourami became a very benign king of the tank. However ...

Sick Dwarf Loach - Pale coloration, red gill area
I recently purchased a second batch of dwarf loaches (Yasuhikotakia sidthimunki). Most of them seem to be doing well, except for one. It must have been hiding most of the time since I only saw it today. Basically it's coloration is not nearly as distinct as the other loaches, and it seems its gill a...

I came up with a new strategy for getting my loaches into the habit of eating snails. I figured that if I purchase live food that it might awaken their old instinct to hunt food instead of waiting for it to be dropped in the tank. That being said, of the several live foods available, which ones woul...

I guess I should've said "up to 100 snails". I probably only got 50 of them last night so the population is on the decline. I believe you are right about the loaches responding to my behavior. They definitely know when it is time to eat, and if I walk by later when they are hungry and the light is o...

Thanks for the replies. The loaches are not in the tank just for snail control, they are one part of my Asian themed tank. When I first got them, I fed them normally with catfish pellets, carnivore pellets, algae wafers, blood worms and cucumbers and they still ate all of my snails. I am not sure th...

Lazy loaches not eating snails
When I first started my tank I had a huge snail problem before I had any fish since they ate my plants. After a couple months I purchased dwarf loaches and they wiped them out. It's probably been a month since I purchased them and the snails have made a big comeback. The loaches still seem to go thr...

Thank you for your advice. I guess I will buy another batch of six in the future and monitor how well they do. For nitrates, the only nutrients I add are root tabs because I am trying to keep as little nutrients in the water as possible. They stay around 5 ppm. I change 5 gallons out twice a week. I...

Advice on Tank Capacity - How many more Dwarf Loaches
Hello, I was wondering if someone could give me advice on whether or not I can add more dwarf loaches to my 30 gallon planted tank. Currently I have: 1 pearl gourami - 4 in (10 cm) 6 harlequin rasbora - 2 in (5 cm) 5 dwarf loaches - 2.5 in (6 cm) So going by inches of fish per gallon, I am near capa...

Yeah thanks for all of your help. I did not see any open wounds and the body is intact, so I am hoping it will grow back although it gets around pretty ok now. And once I figure out how to get algae to stop growing I will be more than happy to take pictures ^~. It's getting better but one species al...

I think I see what you meant by skinny. I would say my loach is actually more thin than skinny because it still has the same streamlined shape and doesn't have any dimples or sunken in areas on its body. I guess it is better to say that it is just smaller. However I will keep a look out on my other ...

My loaches are the first species and I have only observed them chasing my rasboras around but never catching them despite being much faster. I do keep my water clean and lean on nitrates (5 - 10 ppm, trying for 5) and it is also fairly well planted so there should be plenty of O2 as well. I will try...

Dwarf Loach w/ Missing Tail?
Hello, I'm brand new here and I decided to reigster because I need help with a sick/injured dwarf loach. About a week and a half ago I purchased 6 dwarf loaches. One of them seemed smaller and not as active as the others. Recently we had an earthquake that freaked them out and sent them into hiding....
