Sorry to hijack the thread Janne but I absolutely love the Tuberoschistura arakanensis from the third video (I assume these are the same fish that barge into the first vid). Does anybody know if these are available in the UK?

Thanks Mick. Funnily enough the only plants I have put in are Java ferns and I'm constantly pruning Java moss out of my planted tank where it is growin wild. I'll get onto it right away and in 3 - 4 months I'll hopefully have the results to show everyone.

How long before adding hillstreams?

I'm not in a rush but, with having a young family and living about an hour away from the shops that may have them in, I like to plan my fish shop trips in advance. The tank has been running for just over two weeks, with mature filters from another tank, and is home to a small shoal of zebra danios. ...

Is all of that movement from just two Aquaclears and one external filter?
It seems A LOT more than I am getting from two maxijets and two Eheim Eccos.

Mick, were they labelled as Gastros?

If so I must have missed them. I did see a tank labelled 'Mixed hillstreams' but am too new to this to be able to id them.

Do BAS often have them in stock?

Martin, thanks for the link. Oddly enough I found that site last night after posting my wish list and intended to come on here to ask which one to buy. Thanks for saving me the trouble! Emma and others, thanks for the advice about Gastros and Sewellia. As I am new to loaches I certainly won't risk t...

Yes I'm in the North of England - The Wirral. However, I think I've found suitable sponges on a specialist Koi site. I'm afraid I've not actually seen the Leptobotia other than in the book - however BAS had almost everything else. I didn't have the book with me though and I'm new to this so can't be...

Please look and advise on my wish list

Hello everyone, I've had a bit of general advice recently on my 4 foot hillstream project. Now, having finished THE book, done the plumbing and today taken a trip to BAS I am agog with excitement and I have my final wish list. I would be really grateful if anybody would have a look and spot any glar...

Thanks for those replies. I live on the Wirral. As far as stocking goes I'm still very much at early research stage but so far my eye has been caught by Sewellia sp. Gastros and Schisturas. I was thinking of a shoal of Danios for the upper layer and maybe one or two fan shrimps. As I learn more I'll...

Good loach shops in NW England

Hi there, I'm new on here and, having received some advice on stocking suggestions for a 4ft hillstream tank, have begun the process of buying equipment. I've done the plumbing and the powerheads are on order. The tank will be ready soon to turn into a fast flowing river! I've bought the book (reall...

Thanks for those replies. I was thinking of waiting around 6 months before adding sewellias. But was hoping to add around 8 - 10 of them. Would that be okay?

Stocking suggestions for 4ft hillstream tank

Hi there, I'm in the process of shutting down my 4 foot Mbuna tank to change to a fast flowing hillstream one. I intend to shamelessly copy the river manifold system described on the Loaches online site. However, I'm stuck on a few details and would appreciate some help. I've read every article on t...
