Understood, Diana. What I should have said/meant was "I don't think I want to turn it into a rift lake tank thus taking it out of service for anything else for the month it would take to acclimate the fish."
Thanks again.

I haven't found the owner of this store to be particularly open to anyone else's ideas, chef; he's an old-schooler who knows what he knows, and I just pretty much nod at him and make sure I go in armed with my own data. They have two spectacular, big (1600 gal ea), living reef display tanks, however...

Thanks to both of you for your replies. I went back today out of curiosity, and the few cichlids they had in the tank were O. ventralis, which of course is a Lake Tanganyika cichlid. I had also previously failed to notice all the aragonite spread on the tank floor. In short, not only is the pH is hi...

My water is fairly soft in terms of both KH and GH (typically 3-4 degrees) as well as low in TDS. Unfortunately I have no idea about the parameters of the the shop's water other than what they told me re: the pH. I could ask them, but I'm not sure I'd trust the answer. I could ask for a water sample...

Acclimating to radical change in ph
A local fish store has some really pretty B. kubotai but for some inexplicable reason they have them --deliberately - in a tank with a ph of 8.2 (yikes!) Why? I dunno. Maybe they think they're some kind of odd-looking cichlid. The guy who owns the shop is so arrogant I've learned not to bother to as...

Thanks for the reply. First dose was yesterday, following a thorough vaccuming and 50% water change. Raised heat from 76 to 80 degrees over the course of about 10 hours, and planning on another 4 degree increase today over the same period of time. Keeping lights off and cranking the aeration. Also a...

Seachem Paraguard Dosing Question
Hi all, First post. My 26 gallon community tank, which includes 3 Botia kubotai, is ich-ed. At this point only the three loaches and a pair of bleeding heart tetras show any white spots. After much research, I settled on Seachem Paraguard which contains malachite green, much like most other Ich medi...
