Yeah, I thought it was pretty interesting, too. Maybe they need a larger tank? They're in a 10 gallon right now, and have been for the 5 or 6 months I've had them. They seem to be getting along quite well, but now that this defensive behavior has come up I'm thinking maybe they want more space?

Territorial H. Smithi

Last week I noticed something I should have noticed a while ago. These amazing little loaches have picked territories. One has about half the tank, one has the back, and one has the front. Too funny! And when one oversteps it's bounds, the defender lets em know it!
Has anyone else seen this behavior?

No, I didn't make the cave. A lovely family member did. :D
I used to have rocks there, but they seem to enjoy resting ontop of, or upside down in the little cave a lot better.

Mine are afraid of any sort of algae wafer.

They are the only residents in the tank, and it is definitely going to stay that way. I'm surprised I've done this well with them, hehe. Not willing to change much right now.

Do you have yours by themselves too?

Nothing makes me think that, aside from the fact that one of them appeared to have a fuller belly than the other 2, lol. So I took a flying guess.
They LOVE bloodworms, absolutely addore them. They will also eat flake food, though it's definitely not a favorite.

I got 2 males (I think) And one definite female. I have had them for several months now, and they are doing very well in a 10 gallon lightly planted tank. And yes I know there is a snail problem. Been battling it for a while now. Just about ready to give up. Peek-a-boo http://i34.photobucket.com/alb...

Homaloptera smithi feeding

This is quite blurry, but I thought it would be fun to show you how well these guys can hunt, even if it's just mysis shrimp, hehehe.

Thanks! Do you have any ideas on how and what to feed them? Are they omniverous? Carniverous? So far they have been eating cichlid pellets, flakes, and bloodworms, due to me not knowing exactly what to feed them. :( And will they need a bigger tank in the longrun, or is a 10 gallon okay? Thanks!

I got these fish about a month ago. I believe they're loaches. They were being sold under the name 'Hong Kong Pleco', though I know from seeing some pictures of Hong Kong Plecos (Hillstream Loaches) that these are not the same species. I have 3 of them (took them all, lol) in a 10 gallon tank. They ...
