I agree.....putting all of your decor/gravel/filter media into the new tank you are essentially transferring most of your bacteria from one tank to another. If possible just run the old filter from old tank alongside the new filters for new tank for a week or 2, you should be fine. I also have trans...

That poor rummynose is a loner. A mistaken purchase when we first started out with aquariums and didn't know any better. I let my daughters pick out fish and we ended up with 1 rummynose, 2 dyed white skirt tetras, and a pregnant platy! He seems happy on his own though.....always has that bright red...

Just for the fun of it, thought I would add a couple of pics I nabbed yesterday when they were having a feeding frenzy on frozen (thawed) krill....man they love that stuff! http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h216/kimmers318/loaches/clowngroup.jpg http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h216/kimmers318/loac...

Thanks for the reply and I will start looking for a 6x2x2 tank if not larger this fall. With spring sports and summer around the corner it will as usual be busy around here. The plan for the summer is to remove sliding glass doors we have in the kitchen and replace with a wall and smaller window. Th...

another tank size Q
Okay, I haven't been around in awhile, though I have been known to "lurk" a time or 2 because I have been way too busy with my father and his illness. He passed away in Feb. and although it is extremely distressing to lose my dad, the upside is that he was independent right up until his last hospiti...

I have used the volume calculator....tank is actually 24" high with 38x18 footprint. I know it is an unusually sized tank...old and previously owned. It "calculates" anywhere from 64-67 gallons depending on whether you use the height of how full I actually fill it, or the height it could be filled t...

I know watching the little itty bittys grow is why I wanted to get them from 1 1/2 inch mark. I have watched my cories grow from little itty bittys to their full size and it is just so rewarding! Tetras of all sorts used to be my favorite fish when I had small tanks in the past, and when I started t...

A way to do this would be the following: buy 20 clowns from a place that does not treat (for example, Petland). Kill and autopsy them all. You should expect to see 5, maybe 7 tapeworms.[/quote] Yes, especially after reading this knowing that large of a percentage of clowns is probably affected reall...

No problem on the highjacking at all. I will admit, scientifically I am a mental dud....as with mechanically. I regularly just keep going over and over what I have done to try to keep clowns so far, and with the exception of using levamisole have done all that has been recommended. Coupled with the ...

Yes, I was kinda surprised that the vet called levamisole drastic also since from all I have read here it is totally safe! I was just processing some curiousity about it all since I seem to have the worst luck with clowns, and next to my dwarf puffers are probably my favorite fish that I want. Unlik...

Exactly what type of internal parasites are clowns prone to?
I know from the information I have received here that clowns are prone to having internal parasites due to being wild caught. What parasites exactly are we talking about? Some of you may remember that I had posted in the past that I can't keep clowns alive as much as we want to...are ready for the s...
