Thanks! I have had mine for about a year now and I have only seen the vertical stripes being joined by a small horizontal stripe. I am not completely sure but I think mine look more like rostratas than histrionicas. They are definitively not kubos as I would have seen their pattern change more drast...

I bought 5 of these fish about a year ago to keep my lonely yoyo company, but I am now convinced they are not yoyos. Can anybody tell me what they are? Thanks!

Definitively not leuciscus as their bodies are too deep and the fish too big. These fish reach 10 cm max. Squalidus is more likely, but I have not been able to find a picture that matches this fish.

Hi Biulu , are there also a couple of cyprinids in that overhead pic ? Yes, Piggy. Actually it is a fish that gets up to 10 cms long and is a local delicacy. I have a better picture of it here. Hi Thomas, I spelled the name of the Cobitis wrong; it should be C. sinensis....
Some people have suggested to me that the second one it is a Rhinogobius, so not a loach but effectively a goby type.

I was lucky enough to have time to go 'fishing' during my last mission in Hubei Province, Central China. And amongst others I found 2 loach type fish.
