Response to the Rant
Ouch and double ouch!!! Okay, I will attempt to keep myself calm and word this reply diplomatically. Forgive the length, but I wish to provide some context... I have to admit I love loaches! I started in the hobby (which was only in the beginning of September this year) with my 10 gallon tank stocke...

Burmese Border Loach
Hi Mikev!
After looking through the longer loach descriptions and pictures, I think what I saw in the store was Botia Histrionica. It is also called the Burmese Loach so that would explain the store labelling.

Burmese Border Loach
Hi! I was in a lfs today and saw some loaches in a tank labelled Burmese Border Loach. The specimens looked like a cross between Kubotai and Yo-Yo's with respect to banding and body shape. I looked through the species index, but could find nothing matching it. I saw "Burmese Border Sand Loach" in th...

Three to get ready
Thanks for the reply Emma. Okay, so I perused the Species Index on Botias and checked around some lfs in my area. It seems that one lfs has some nice looking Botia Rostrada aka Twin banded or Sgt. Major loaches. These are on the smaller size (6-7cm max) and look rather like mini botia darios. I can ...

Two for the show...
Okay, so I've decided I will do the sociable thing and get two kubotai loaches for the tank. It'd be nice to go to three, but I'd be really overstocked. Two is pushing it as it is. Thanks for the advice all.

Botia cont'd
Yes I had only one yo-yo in my community tank, but he was happy as a lark. He was growing well and had nice colors up until the pathology hit. I got him before I read about keeping them in groups. He seemed to socialize quite well with all of the fish in the tank. I might have space to squeeze in tw...

Botia Angelicus vs. Botia Almorae
Sorry to say the favourite fish in my community tank died today ("Stripes" my yo-yo loach). He succumbed to the flex bacteria. I only wished I could have caught it earlier, but unfortunately I was also preoccupied with treating a cammalanus roundworm infestation as well. Being new to fishkeepi...

Another Worm Bites the Dust!
Just a quick note to all that I saw another dead worm exit a fish this morning (a female platy). It was about 1/2" long. I was able to net and bag it. This Fenbend seems to be working!

Thanks for the Info
I'll definitely look into the link. Thanks! I'm optimistic about the Fenbend though. I figure even one dead worm is a good start (especially for the fish it came out of!) The vet gave me enough for three weeks of treatment. It's good to have a backup plan too of course.

Exiting Worm
Hi Mikev! Well I'm not sure how the worm is supposed to look, but it looked to me like it was dead. It was just slowly falling in the current of the tank like a piece of debris. I should have taken the thing out, but I lost it in the midst of a large plant. Do the worms usually swim about or snake a...

Cammalanus treatment update
Hi Everyone! Thought I'd give an update. You can refer to my post "Levamisole Alternatives" for my history. So I put the dose of Fenbend in both tanks today (the 10g community, and the 2g QT). I started at half dose in the 10g due to the 2 loaches, but put they seemed fine, so I put the other half o...

Levamisole alternatives - update
Thanks for all your help! To give an update I called every vet, farm feed supplier, exotic pet shop, etc. in the Toronto area and was getting pretty desperate as no one seemed to have either Levamisole/Tramisol or Avitrol. There was one vet though that asked me to bring in the guppy with the nematod...

Alternatives to Levamisole Hydrochloride?
Hi! I'm fairly new to fishkeeping (about 1 mo.) and I have a 10g community tank with 4 guppies (originally), 2 platies, 1 dwarf gourami, 1 yo-yo loach, and 1 kuhli loach. I had a period where I thought there was an ick outbreak, but have been informed as of late that it's more likely a parasite call...
