What a great picture! :) I love their surprosed look. Who turned on the light?

Does anyone know why they do this? Do they do this in the wild?

Do the fish get abrasions from jamming themselves in like this?

What kind of tube is that? Is it bamboo?

Yep, they catch a lot of clown loaches using bamboo poles. Various diameter poles capture different sized fish.

Yes, it's bamboo. I don't have any problems with it - but I have two little ancistrus catfish who obviously like its taste - without any "abrasive" algae eaters bamboo sticks would probably start to rot in a tank (the ancistrus are grinding bamboo down faster than it can decay).

Abrasions .. close to none. As to WHY they do it .. who knows .. since they are very social fish, perhaps they just like to hug?

Thanks so much. :) Maybe I will add some bamboo for the clowns to hang out in and the Bristlenoses to munch on. :)
