How many loaches do you have, definitely will, or used to own?

None, just fascinated by them.

Hello

Post by Ξ » Fri Jan 18, 2008 9:07 am

Hello, this is my first post, and it is nice to be here. I'm not sure if I posted this before... I have a faulty mouse (:p) and may have not actually clicked "submit..."
I am currently considering ordering a Botia kubotai. I have some questions, which follow:
-Will I need to keep a lid on it?
-What are some suitable dither fish?
-How long can one keep it in a 10 gallon ( before it gets too large? I have a 10 that we use as a show tank for small fish. It would be replaced with a larger tank, but the alcove between the kitchen and dining room has some size issues (10" wide.)
-How much bogwood do they like?
That is all. Thank you to anyone, should you help.
See this? It's a signature. And apt to be changed, to boot.

I don't think any loach belongs in a 10g tank.

All tanks should have a lid, not only to prevent fish from jumping out, but to prevent evaporation. Evaporation will increase the rate of OTS (old tank syndrom) tremendously, especially in a ten gallon tanks.

Yes, a 10 gallon tank is far too small for any loach species. Botia kubotai also need to be kept in groups - ideally 5 or more. I suggest you hold off until you are able to provide them with appropriate conditions.
