Pier aquatics additions

Well back safe and sound from Pier aquatics yesterday afternoon with a number of lovely new additions
In the end I came home with
8 very chunky Botia dario around 3 inches in length
4 (what I think are Puntius johorensis to join my other three
4 Barbus nigrofasciatus
5 Hemigrammus rhodostomus
4 Puntius denisonii to join my larger four
Must say a big thank you to Neil and staff for all the help they gave yesterday as always
The B.dario will be having the 4ft to themselves along with some of the barbs in a month or so-the tank is acting as a quartine at the moment.

Anyway a few pictures;












For most of the day the B.dario have been bickering amongst themselves for some sort of social structure I imagine, its amazing how much of colour change these guys can do-one in particular was as black as your boot eariler and the one showing the most dominance-I think we may know who the boss is going to be

beautiful pics ashleigh, you can't go wrong with my mate neil for good healthy fish at a great price as you know with the darios, i got 10 of him when they first come in.
i think your right with johorensis for the barbs.
great additions to your tank.

Can't agree more. Hes been trying to get V.maassi in for me even before I got my four from London bless him
He was asking after you btw New fish in around start/middle of Feb.

Very nice. B. dario are on my list. I had one in the past and it was full of personality. It was the only one the shop had, havent seen them since.

Very nice, Ashleigh. I'll be interested to hear how your big group of adult Botia dario behave. I once had 13 together and they wreaked utter havoc!

You know Emma, it was you mentioning about finding them slightly fiesty that made the decision for their own tank (initially I had debated about putting them in with the B. striata) - pity Chris didn't know about the 'they will have their own tank idea' until they were back in Wales 'Yes dear they will be fine in with the other Botia'
I must admit they have been rather fiesty since getting settled in-it may cool down, maybe not... we chall see - maybe Mick could give us a heads up on how his are doing.....

well ive found them to like most of the botia group, granted they do have the occasional spat but nothing serious,
they don't get marked up through these spats.
they live side by side with striata's, kubotai, almorhae and histrionica's with no serious problems.
the only danger fish in there are caudipunctata's there's three of them if they say move to any of the botias they say how far.

Filter media (eheim)-temporary measure while in quartine, they will have a nice sandy tank to go into when their month is up. I like my quartine tank to be slightly more 'clinical' and easy to add and remove items if and when necessary and cause of the bigger gaps between the 'balls' its much much eaiser to keep clean plus extra surface for the bb. Luckly it doesn't cause any damage to barbles, which was something I was worried about when I started using it.
