yo yo loaches and cory cats

Post by Red_Arokh » Thu Jun 01, 2006 8:28 am

Hello all!
I was wondering if i could put yo yo loaches in with cory cats? I want to eventually put them in my 55g with my clown loaches but all the yo yos I see in the stores are so small. My 3 clown loaches are between 3 and 4 inches. The yo yos I see at the stores are well under 1 inch. I just wanted to put them in my 29g with my cory cats to grow them bigger before putting them in the 55g. Would this be ok? TIA

should be okay, 55 gallons is a little small though. 3 clowns plus yo-yos will need more space 75gallon (hopefully more)... as you probably know they need a large "footprint" tank. yo-yos grow very quickly. mine went from 1"-3" in a couple months, and they're still gorwing. they're bigger than my biggest clown  but yo-yos and cory cats should be fine. the more yo-yos the less aggressive they are to other fish and eachother, but remember they can get to be 8+ inches so... they're NOT "small" fish.
many tanks...

got to love my fat little wobbly wigglies...

Thanks for the info poeticpyro,
I know i will eventually need a bigger tank for my loaches......I'm still in college right now so I can't afford a huge footprint tank right now but I heard clown loaches grow really slowly after they reach about 3". I have had my clowns for 2 1/2 years now, they are between 3" and 4", and I got them when they were well under 1". they were so tiny then!! They used to be in a 29g when they were small but when they got to be 3" it just seemed to small for them so I got lucky and was able to buy them a 55g. Yo Yo loaches get that big!!! I was told they only get 4"!!!!! And so fast to........maybe I need to rethink this. How many should I get if I do decide to get some? Would 3 be ok?
I want to get at least one more clown because I lost one a few months ago and am down to 3. Definitely one more but I have my doughts on getting two more. I want to waite for that special one that catches my eye. But if the Yo Yos get so big maybe ill stick with clowns and leave it at that. I am trying to figure out what I want to put in my 55g with my loaches because it is pretty much empty right now. I have some tiger barbs and nice size giant dannios, but I wanted some other bottom feeder that looks cool, will get along with the clowns and wont get to big. Sorry for the long letter.....lol Can you tell I love my loaches?
