Video clip: Sewellia sp. 'spotted' fry

Post by Emma Turner » Thu Feb 07, 2008 11:35 am

Here are a couple of youngsters browsing on the manifold sponges in the river tank:

(as always with my noisy camera, please turn the sound down/off)

They are still to start with as they saw me approaching with the camera. But then after 10 seconds or so, they realise I'm not a threat and carry on munching/chasing.

:D

Thanks Ashleigh. :D Sewellia ('spotted' and lineolata) seem to be very slow growers. This old thread may give an idea of how fast the Spotties grow over time: http://forums.loaches.com/viewtopic.php?t=3995
I have been feeling rather concerned about this lately, as a huge proportion of the Sewellia lineolata seen in the trade are whoppers and must be very mature, and have probably taken years and years to get to that size. I just hope that they don't overfish them and take away the breeding population. :?
