I have just done a 10 gallon water change.
I also replaced 1 of the 4 filter thingies.
This is good, right?
When should I test it again to see if it is on the mend?
I should continue this process for a minimum of a week until the nitrites are gone, right? Or should I continue it until the fish are all better again?
Also--once the fish seem better--and the nitrites are gone-should I raise the temp to what it should be and discontinue the use of salt?
(and what temp SHOULD it be at?)
THANK YOU!
I have had loaches since 99 and never had a problem until now. I think the LFS (I went to a few) are only wanting to sell me expensive products and medicines because they had jerked me around for a year. I am so glad I came here!
please help!

If you don't use water directly from the well and you use it after you put it through the softener, that would be the reason why the LFS says you have soft water.. because its been through the softening process...although it doesn't make much difference for fish in this aspectl. All the softener does is replaces Magnesium anc Calcium with Sodium.
