min size tank for clown

Post by Kat » Thu Jun 15, 2006 7:58 am

Hi there,
Can anyone tell me the minimum size tank for keeping a clown loach? One day I dream of keeping them in the lap of luxury and want to know how much money to save to buy them a great tank!
Also, does anyone know if there are such summary stats on the site:
Loach> max size/temp etc> min tank size, perhaps a compatibility chart?
I know there are the individual species descriptions on the site but the concept of an 'overall view' might be very informative for us newbies..

Hi Kat,

Personally I think Clown Loaches should be kept in an aquarium that is a minimum of 4ft in length, and moved to a tank at least 6ft long when adult. Of course it is best to start them in as big as tank as possible to reduce the amount of times that you have to move them to bigger quarters. At our shop, we will not sell them for tanks smaller than 4ft.

With regards to loach summaries, a group of LOL regulars are currently in the process of revamping the species index, and once finished it will provide a lot more information. :D

Clownies and their homes

Thanks Emma,
That is very helpful. I think that one day I can realise my dream of keeping some clown loaches; they are the best fish of all! I have not had much success so far. I think the clowns are very sensitive when they are small, (not available larger round my way) and I have still not resolved some tap water problems. However, once I am sorted I will look to keeping them in comfort!
Many thanks again,
Kathryn
