What is this fish?

Post by starsplitter7 » Sat Jun 21, 2008 11:22 pm

I bought this as a Borneo Sucker Loach. Very pretty fish. It is about an inch long. Very tiny, but very feisty and active. Doesn't put with guff from anyone. I am looking for companions, but they are not available right now. I have increased the aeration and dropped the temp slightly. In the future I will have a specific tank.

Is the fish behind him a common Pleco? It has such nice markings. About 3".

Not super clear, but I wanted to show size compared to pond snail eggs.

I recently got one too, I wondered if maybe we shop at the same shop but I see you're in Fla. I think it's gastromyzon scitilus. Mine is a brazen little bugger too. He wants all the rocks all the time, even has a go at the sewellia but they won't have it. Beautiful little fish!

All my really cool fish come from a privately owned Mom and Daughter store called Fishworld. The Mom/Owner actually goes to the fish farms and picks out her fish. This is the great LFS that will take fish people can no longer care for and home bred fish, so you can get really cool fish there. They also kennel your fish for you. Really a great store.

Wow! What a pretty fish! Are those yellow spots? I am not sure if his tail is blue, because it is usually closed (I think I make him nervous by watching him) and it is tiny. I thought it was black and white striped maybe.

It just looks yellow, I'm not very good with my camera, yet. And it was a bit off color in the bag. It's colored up nicely now.I think it's the same color as yours. Mine does have a beautiful blue (with a little magenta on the edges) tail.

Really beautiful. Mine might have a little red, but I will need to watch him carefully to see if there is some blue.

Both of the fish pictured look very nice. That top one appears not to have typical G. scitulus tail markings but looks similar in other ways.

G.scitulus is the top one in this pic with G. ctenocephalus being the lower one.

Martin.
