Tank considerations for Yasuhikotakia nigrolineata

Post by Joe Khul » Wed Jun 25, 2008 3:00 pm

Greetings all,

I have been contemplating adding at least 5 Yasuhikotakia nigrolineata to the 55 gallon tank I am going to be getting Friday. The tank will eventually hold at least 4 kuhli loaches, 4 rummy nose tetras, 4 black neons, 2 green cories, 2 white clouds, 3 guppies, and 2 otto's. I plan on expanding the shoals of each of the schooling fish listed as soon as the tank is matured.

Is my tank going to be large enough for these fish? I want to get the dwarf version (Yasuhikotakia sidthimunki) but as they are rare and pricey, I thought i found an alternative. I also wonder if these loaches will get along with the other fish listed above. Please advise.

Thank you in advance,

Mike

Hi Mike,

You might find the Y. nigrolineata even harder to come by - they are pretty scarce in the trade. However, if you manage to source some, be aware that they like it slightly cooler than some of the other botiid species. In fact, a typical 'river tank' is an ideal set up for them. Most of your proposed stock list will get on fine at these temps, but not all would be able to handle the fast current that Y. nigrolineata enjoy.

Hope this helps,

Emma

It more then helps. My thanks Emma. I wanted to get expert opinons before I subjected more fish to unfavorable conditions. Since Kuhli's are my first obsession, I will satisfy myself with expanding my Pangio population.

As I am off after Friday for 9 days, I hope to have the tank set up and cycling , so I should have pics of the setup by next week some time (assuming the digital camera is operational).

Thanks again,

Mike
