Hi I recently brought three clown loaches, to keep my oscar company. They were all around 2.5 inches in length and my Oscar is rather mellow, so I thought they would be quite happy. After three weeks hwoever I hardly ever saw two of them and never saw the biggest one, apart from at feeding time.
After reading all the good advice on the forum I realised the set up of the tank was wrong - by a window (tank does has backing paper to keep out most of the sun) and in the kitchen which is rather a busy room. I have another large Oscar tank in my dining room (My two Oscars fell out, which I why I had to get them seperate homes- both are very mellow on their own), which unlike the tank in the kitchen is rather dark as I have black sand, and thick duck weed to keep the polypetus and silver dollars, in with the Oscar happy.
Moved the clown fish into the fast moving end of the tank (where the two filter outlets meet) with their home from the kitchen tank and hoped for the best. A day later and I have seen the clown loaches more in one hour than I did in the whole 3 weeks they were in the other tank. They love it and all 3 are merrilly swimming about and exploring. They are now quite happily out during the day. (Actually I now wonder when they sleep!!)
I just want to say thank you for the good advice I read on this forum. Without it I think my poor fish would still be spending most of their lives hiding under drift wood and probably getting rather stressed and even worse case dying.
Hello and thanks for all the great info on this site
