Hello!
Hi all
Newbie here, have been having a nose on this forum & decided to join. Should be getting a Juwel 450 delivered tomorrow. Will be putting my clowns in it & was wondering if anyone could tell me about tiger loaches? Will they be OK with clowns? We hope to keep silver dollars & "odds" from our current tank with them......

Here is the species index for the loach you are interested in: http://www.loaches.com/species-index/sy ... ymenophysa
Good luck.

Hi, and welcome to Loaches Online.
Unfortunately, the tiger loaches (Syncrossus species) will not be suitable for keeping alongside your clown loaches. All Syncrossus species are generally very aggressive and need their own set up with fish that can 'hold their own'. Have a read of this article if you are interested in setting up a tank specifically for them: http://www.loaches.com/articles/tigers- ... s-in-crime
The Juwel 450 will make a nice home for the clowns for a while (add extra filtration as the built in Juwel filters are not that good), but you will need to upgrade again at some point. We'd love to see some pics once you have it all up and running.
Hope this helps,
Emma

The tigers are best kept in large social groups though, and that is when the aggression towards more placid species is much more apparent. I definitely would not recommend Y. modesta (red finned blue loach) to be kept with clowns either, if you wanted to go for another species, have a look at Botia histrionica, Botia striata & Botia kubotai.

A lot of the different tank mate choices Can be a bit suck it and see senario's, as the different answers are from all these experienced aquarists prove !
Most Tiger loaches are feisty , though having said that , it is possible to keep them in mixed situations , also you must remember one persons success is anothers failure !
If you really want the tigers , and are weighing up the pro's and cons , my suggestion would be to try them BUT make sure the Clown are a bit bigger AND keep a close eye on the behaviour and interaction , IF this combination fails , then choose which loaches you prefer ,and return the others to the shop , at least that way you will be happy ! also you can then pass on your own experiences to others .
GOOD LUCK !
