Question on Y nigrolineata
hi all.
i'd like to ask a question on the pattern this fish has, the nigro's are only supposed to have 2 bars down the body accordind to the papers on them right?.
well i remember a shipment of this fish coming in to Bolton all the fish were a decent size but along with the two bars there was a good number of fish with the chain markings,
everything about this fish was identical to the nigro's, but there was no mention of these marking in the papers.
could anyone give an answer to this question please.
i know a pal who bought some of the two bars and asked him if any of his fish had changed pattern in any way and he said not, and he's had them at least 7 yrs now

Hi Mick,
You're talking about the lateral stripes, right? I've only been lucky enough to receive a couple of batches of Y. nigrolineata in the past, and both times the smaller (younger) fish had quite a bit of chain marking on them, which on some specimens seemed to disappear as they grew. Still have several adult fish in stock.

Me and Mick were chatting about this last night , so i rang up a mate of ours who i know had 1/ lots of sid's 2/ the Nigro's with the dark latteral band , and no chain markings whatsoever, and 3/ the large ones that looked like giant Sid's .
This pal of ours has no problem growing his fish , so i asked if the fish with just the dark latteral band had ever developed chain markings aka Sidthimunki , [he's had the fish a good number of years !] and he said no , he said he had managed to get good size i.e. full bodied , and a little extra length , but that they still had JUST a dark latteral band , NO chain marks aka Sidthimunki
I have the Kottelat paper on Nigrolineata , and he said that the only similarity with Sidthimunki was the dark latteral band , and that Nigrilineata didnt have the chain marks aka Sidthi's .BUT i suspect as he is an icthyologist that they probarbly sample a good number of fish 20 ,50 ? however many , i cant remember off the top of my head ?BUT my guess is that they would be roughly all of a similar size ! as the parents would be long gone ! SO not totally conclusive !
My question is , has anybody had the one's with just a latteral band develop as it grows and start showing the chain markings

I'll have to dig out some pics later, I think I have examples of both. Have you seen the 'heavily chain marked' pic that Fishbase uses for Y. nigrolineata? http://www.fishbase.org/Summary/species ... grolineata
