pics - and fluval or juwel??

yey I finally worked it out! (pics)

Here are a few pics of some of my loaches, lil cory dudes and my false SAE.

I am undecided on a new tank - I plan to get a 4ft tank, either juwel 240 or Fluval deep duo 1200 - does anyone recommend either of these? I will be putting it on top of an existing sideboard so wont be able to have an external filter. Do either of these have sufficient internal filters for the job? Could I put 2 internal filters in?

Internal filters take up a lot of room in the tank. I can understand wanting it to be hidden, but is there any way a canister would work? The major part of the canister would be hidden under that tank in whatever cabinet it is. This would provide much better filtration, and a better look overall than having 1 or more internal filters.

yeah, you're right Diana - please can you explain about the canister? I have only ever had internal juwel filters to deal with and this will all be new to me.

I do have a solution - but it is a costly one - a friend of mine makes me a cabinet (i didnt/ dont want an mdf standard cabinet ) - to house the external filter.

Why not just purchase the stand with the Juwel 240 (better choice) and ignore the Fluval deep duo 1200 (the hoods are crap). You can add an additional internal filter with a good power-head on it. Or you can remove the Juwel filter from inside and use a external filter.

Thanks Graeme - yes, I think I would prefer to use Juwel, seen as that is already what im used to.

Yes, keeping the juwel filter and having the option of adding another one with a good power-head seems like my best option - especially if I will already have a my own stand.

the juwel filters on the smaller tanks have too low a flow rate for clown loaches realy, the larger tanks seem to be a bit better, but if you have the juwel filter and an external in your cabinet, you will be fine. the juwel tanks do look nice.

my other half made me a stand as i didnt like the look of the juwel stands. they looked a bit flimsy for a big tank. he made me plenty of room for external filters and storage.

Yes that is my concern - I have 2 power-heads in my juwel tank atm and am still not entirely happy.

I will be looking into getting a juwel rio 240 and adding an external filter too(and probably an extra power-head!). I dont like the look of the stands that come with the tanks, so il be looking for a stand that will house the filter too - it may take some time - im quite picky

Wow, Kaz, things have changed since the days of the three yoyos! Your tank looks great. Those C. pygmaeus are adorable.

I really want a rio 240 - I'm jealous! I've got a maxijet 1200 powerhead in my rio180 and it gives out a fair kick, so i reckon two of the things in a 240 would make quite a stir.

Did you ever do anything with those snails you were thinking about?
