i snagged 6 of these from Emma & Steve's shop, my question is to those that have or had them and to the people in the fish trade, how many variants of this fish have you seen.
me and Andy got some when they first come in te UK, they were a contaminant with triangularis the thing is the colours and pattern are so different to the ones i got from Emmas that i was wondering if there's any other patterns out there, and if so is this due to where they're caught.

they are so much darker with a beatiful green sheen to their body.

When I got my original 12 guentheri there was only two that looked almost identical and the variations in the markings of the other was quite drastic so I am not sure if it even has to come down to regional variations I think they are one of those fish that have very variable markings.

I think if they were mass produced you may start to lose that variation but the fact that these are still pretty much a wild fish then you are going to see this.

That last one is a stunner Mick, I had a big female very similar to that with full spots and lines under the belly.

i know what you mean mate, if there's a pic of one male i had out of the batch from BAS i'll post it up, i'm sure it's on one of the discs,
if i haven't i'll describe it the best i can, its central line of spots had outer lighter rings that made it look like a chain effect. does that make any sense.?

Yes, I still have him. He's probably put on a little weight since this pic was taken a few months ago.

here's a pic of one of the males i had, they killed each other of over a period of time which sort of put me of them for a while.

in the background is a blurred view of an L144 which i was the first to breed in the UK.

they have a few marks on the flanks now as most of the times i see them they're having a go at each other, must be the water round here.

Hi Mick , The ones I saw in India had red tails ?
I have them coming in fingers crossed on Thursday .

Beautiful. I have a pair in my river tank, which tolerate each other to a degree (there is never any damage to one another at least). The female is gravid and has been for some time, but no signs of any fry. I'll try and dig out some pics, I know I have a couple somewhere. Not as many as I'd like mind you, on account of mine being very shy if they notice any movement outside the tank.
