Advice on a powerhead

Post by Narcil » Tue Aug 25, 2009 2:14 am

Recently I aquired a 2500L/hr Powerhead that was meant to replace a failed pump for my little 30gal tank, (its way overpowered, i didnt buy it ><), so instead i want to swap my 2nd internal filter in my large tank with this powerhead.

I was wondering, If i place this powerhead into my 70gal tank will the huge sudden increase in flow shock the fish?

Furthermore will this be to strong for the tank in general.

Tank is 4ft long, with quite alot of rock cover so there should be breaks in the flow.

I have

7 Clowns
1 pictus
3 bristlenose pleco
10 cardinal
5 rummy nose
2 angles

VA3600 in 4ft tank

Post by bigpow » Tue Aug 25, 2009 2:32 am

VA3600 is rated at 970GPH and I had it running on timer in a 4ft 55G tank.
Fish were shocked at first, but they love it now.

The only drawback is the sand seem to collect on one side of the tank, stripping the other side completely bare. Shouldn't be an issue if not using sand.
