Hemimyzon, Taiwanese Hillstreamloach

Post by odyssey » Sun Nov 22, 2009 9:41 am

Hi all!
I got Taiwanese Hillstrealoach recently. Probably I think that it is Hemimyzon formosanum.
It seems to have been imported with Sinogastromyzon pulliensis.
I estimated it to be Hemimyzon formosanum from heap of the distribution with Sinogastromyzon pulliensis.

Unfortunately they are very weak, and therefore the keeping of the long term seems to be difficult.

lucky you ...
I once tried cheni with artemia, special fat pellets (chocolat-pelets) and dusty tetra min. hope you are succesful
thanks for the links odyssey. I've combined the x-rays of both species in a picture to have a direct comparing. shows really remarkable differences. such as very slim hemimyzon . it shouldn't be impossible to make them go for food ... if there is interest I could send it ...

Unfortunately my Hemimyzon seems to have gone.
Though I cannot take a new picture anymore, I found splendid video clip instead.
It is 22 minutes and a long video, but a lot of Taiwanese peculiar freshwater fish come out.

Special Freshwater Fish of Taiwan
This video introduces special freshwater fish of Taiwan and their features, habitual behavior, dwelling regions and challenges to survival. These fish include the Taiwanese salmon or Formosan salmon (Oncorhyncus masou formosanum), the tasseled-mouth loach (Crossostoma lacustre), the Hemimyzon taitungensis, and the Formosan zacco (Zacco barbata).
It is a site of pictures of Hemimyzon more.
