Since adding my Koralia 1050

Post by clint » Sat Mar 20, 2010 11:11 am

Just some observations i've noticed the last couple days. My kuhlis are out and about much more then in the past.

My oblonga (black) kuhlis have usually been on the right side of the tank hiding in and around the stone tower i have there. Since adding the Kora i see them all about the tank.

My pangio (stripped) Kuhlis are out and about as well, they usually would just be hiding under all the base stone work, the bottom most stone. Which has just enough space for them to get under and nothing else. There was only 3 of them which would come out, now i see 6 at a time.

It could be the current in the tank has changed now and their food source has been dispersed throughout the tank, not likely. Another thought is maybe they like the gentle current and feel more at home? I have numerous hiding spots for them, its just a scurry away for them, so i know they feel secure. I just can't explain why they are out more now then before the Kora was installed.

I do see my zebra, yoyos swimming right up to the grill of the kora and then falling back with the current. The rainbow shark likes to surf the current 6" away. The bows like to criss cross throguh the current.

I figured all the fish would benefit from the addition of the kora, but this thing with the kuhlis being out and about so much has been a big surprise. I'll see if this behavior continues. That and they are cohabitating under the same stones, which is also a new behavior. I had considered them racist in the past each keeping to their own areas of the tank??

I did recently add 7 pangios, but that doesn't explain why the oblongas are out and away from their base of stone, they've been in this tank well over 6 months.

Also of note is the amount of time my rainbows spend surfing the current, makes me think to get another one to add up higher in the water column. All the fish in my tank are taking to the addition of the koralia, not a one is shying away.

this is very encourgaging
I just moved the clowns and the kubs to the 125 but the current is suboptimal. I was not sure how the rainbows would deal with the extra current, but it sounds like they love it.
Please keep posting your progress!

I would say the rainbows like it at least as much as the loaches maybe more. Before the addition of the Kora the bows would be concentrated in the upper water column. Now they are down lower with the loaches it makes my tank look over stocked. I may raise the kora and see if the loaches follow. I can tell by the bows change in location that they obviously enjoy some extra water movement. If i had a 6' tank then i would definatly get the koralia evolution 1400, i got the evolution 1050. Its their new series of pumps and they use less energy then the older models. I think mine is like 5 watts, so energy wise you can't beat them.

I'll move the kora up higher and see what happens, will report back later.
