Another loach spawned

Post by Mad Duff » Fri Jan 08, 2010 11:15 am

In August last year I bought a group of Acanthopsoides molobrion, the tank I put them into suffered some problems a couple of weeks after I got them and I lost 3 of the group, the remaining 3 fish were moved into a small Aqua One cube for a short period (which was the plan then) a month later another one died which left me with just the two adult fish, to say I was gutted was an understatement but these things happen :(

A few days before Christmas I decided to empty the tank that these were in and move them to the sid tank, as stated before it was initially just a short term plan but they were happy enough so ended up staying in this small tank for a longer period than was planned.

I caught the first adult but then had to start sifting through the gravel to find the other, at this point something small shot up out of the gravel and then dived straight back in, this happened several times so I slowly started to remove the gravel from the tank. It didn't take long for the other remaining adult to be caught and as I moved more gravel I found 2 young Acanthopsoides molobrion :D :D

I got a couple of pics (I did get more but was also getting into the festive spirit so what seemed in focus at the time was way off  )

This is one of the juveniles:

As a reference for size you can see a white mark in the base of the tank before the anal fin of the juvenile which is just behind the pectoral fin of the adult.

It was pointed out to me that the last post had vanished so I thought I would repost it :)

Hi,

i also got 8 of these nice loaches some days ago from two different stores.

6 of them i bought last, do look very tiny, but they are agile and do search for food very active.

They seem to avoid foodpills etc., so yesterday i tried Enchytraeus with no success.

To me they seem to inhale dusty-food like disbanded foodpills and stuff of similar kind.

How do you feed them and what are your experiences with their food preferences?

I hope i am able to get them thicker, the 2 ones i got first do very well.

In my tank i see 6 of the group most times so they do not hide themselves a lot in the fine sand. To me it seems to be a good sign. They do not show any sign of indisposion.

Do you have any ideas where they could have hidden their eggs in your tank?

Excuse my bad english, it´ll get better while using it.

Greetings

Andreas
