ID for some loaches

Post by sparx » Sat Mar 03, 2012 2:16 pm

Hi

I'm new here, as I wanted some more experienced to ID my new pair of loaches :)
I found these in a local pet shop by accident, as I've been searching to find a new loach as the one I lost about a year ago - very personal and lively fish, and I think I was able to ID him as an acanthocobitis (rubidipinnis?). Guy in store had no clue what it was, but I liked the look of it, and thought it would suit my tank well..

As for the new ones, I noticed one by the look of it, and had to take it with me. In the store, it was labeled as pakistan botia, but I know this is not correct. I think it might be something similar as my old one, if not the same species? My boyfriend bought another one for me today, from the same shop, and it looked very similar until it was released into my tank and met the other, then the new one turned allmost black! They swim together and look very happy now 8)

So, this is how they look;

Any idea?

The corys are moving into my sons aquarium soon, as I want to 'go Asian' now.

You might want to check out this link and see if you can ID the fish from the species index.

The mahnerti has wrong head, it seems to me, and they don't have the spots on the head that the other one have. None of the two suggested has the black spots at the base of the tailfin.
