a while ago i borrowed my mother in law's digital camera, which is the most horrible thing ever invented, and mananged to get these. sorry they are so bad. the last one is supposed to be my striata with unsual markings. the first one is the fish i bought as a yoyo, but im not quite sure now. it's grown slower, and isnt quite so mad as the others :?

im not even sure the links work yet :?

Hello Helen,

the striata, really shows an an interesting pattern.

... with the current camera (not mine neither) I need tu use a magnifying glass in front off the lense, to get sharp close-up pic´s... (has no macro-function)

... you did well capturing them at all, mine are allways "on the run"...

Ive asked a few people on forums about underwater pics and have been told the same thing. Practace! Mines pretty bad still, would post them but not sure how.
Aparently you can take 100 and get 1 good one!! If using flash take it at a angle so no flash back, dont go too close to the glass, the camera is fooled and is not sure if its taking the glass or whats behind it!!
Hard to explain, i just play with the settings.

That B. striata has an amazing pattern! :D It's even more unusual than the one I told you we had at the shop not so long ago.

2 words: distance and flash...

if the camera can't handle close-ups than don't try...

if the picture is out of focus it's because of the low shutterspeed just use the flash (sideways! and not in front of the windows because is will reflect the light than).

what camera was it (maybe i can give you the right settings for aquarium "shooting")

edit:

oops forgot the third and most importend word: patience...

Errr...yeah...bit of practice needed there Helen.

You didn't code your URL's as images, so I edited that in for you.

Put in your URL, highlight it, then hit the Img button above the message box. That'll get 'er done!

What's the camera? Knowing that helps immensely. With Canons, I can usually give people ball-park settings and they get instant improvements.

Martin.

thanks for all your help and advice. i have no idea what the horrible camera is, and it may be quite unlikely i will get to steal it again for ages. i have been trying to take some photos with a very old film camera (1970's?), but i cant remeber what make that is. i will take your advice on the flash. i was worried about scaring the fish.

the striata has different paterns on each side. in reality it is more normal shape too. it wont swim to a good place for taking pictures of its sides. i think aptience is the very important bit of advice.

thanks! :D

Ask your Tom nicely if he will get you a little digital camera for Christmas. You'll have much better success with one of those, and it doesn't matter how many you have to 'throw away'.

Look forward to seeing more pics of that B. striata at some point. :D

Totally agree Emma. Go get digital for Christmas matey! You'll find the learning curve goes near vertical compared to what you can learn with a film camera.

my blurry fish were better than the previous attempt  i have a very long way to go!

i think a digital camera will have to come, but this christmas i might be getting another tank stand made :D

it is very fustrating to wait for ages for a fish to get into view, and then have to wait even longer to see what the picture will look like. something else to save up for. well, it will stop me from buying even more tanks, i suppose

I have a Digital Sony Cyber-shot DSC-P51 (2 mega-pixel) that works well and has some old pictures like below taking from it.

It's yours for free! PM me your Address, Helen.
