Assimilation is complete

Post by shari2 » Sat Oct 14, 2006 7:52 pm

There are now hillstreams in my river tank. Hillstreams I actually bought. With money. Myself. It was inevitable...

So now I need to know what I actually have. :? The tank at the lfs had at least 50 hillstreams all of which were going for the bargain price of 2 for $9.99. Mixed bag for sure! Definitely some cheni, beaufortia, ctenocephalus and occellatus. I got 6. At least 1 ocellatus (I think?), one certainly cteno, maybe 2 cheni and possibly beaufortia. MAN did I wish the Book was out so I could flip through some pics and see what was what in that tank! I really am not sure exactly what I have yet...when the camera comes back home, I'll try to get some pics. But they won't be good, I promise. 8)

Spent about 30 min watching the cteno and the maybe occellatus fighting over the biggest rock. Nose to nose bulldozing, side swiping, bumping, eating each others pectoral fins...general no-holds-barred wrestling. They were seriously unhappy to be next to each other and neither would give up the rock. The cheni eventually bulldozed the red tailed guy off into the jet stream, but they went right back at it once he got his way back...

so now it's official...

You got them the minute you purchased the fish. Didn't you notice?

The tank is moving to the kitchen tomorrow. (took all the plants out of the 30 to the lfs) That way I can watch. Voyerism is a symptom of the hillstream collective mentality, I think.

They are going nuts in there. The poor white clouds don't know what to think and the bristle is nowhere in sight (which is totally normal anyway). Flying fish. Grazing fish. Little spotted fish everywhere it seems.
