Great news!

Post by shazam26 » Fri Jan 19, 2007 11:02 am

As it turns out, I'm able to upgrade much sooner than later!
In about a month or so, I'll be able to upgrade from the 20 gallon to a 70 gallon tank. :D The manager at the local lfs store knows me well, and has given me a very good price to sell me a 70 with all the fixings included.
It's very, VERY difficult to find a large tank at a reasonable price here. :(
Even Wal Mart sells 55 g tanks for about 400-500 a piece- not including ANYTHING but the lid, light and tank itself.
I'm very excited about this. ^_^ Though my clowns have yet to show any true growth, I'll be glad to get them into a much larger home.

What kind of tank? What comes with the setup?

Tank, hood, stand, light, filter, heater, substrate, decor, other?

When I got my 75 gallon tank I was quickly overwhelmed with the price of all the extras I needed.

I spent about $2000 (USD) on my tank after all was said and done.

Not trying to discourage you - just saying to make sure you check out *everything* you will need before jumping into a financial commitment, even if it is for the good of your fish!

I found the tank itself to be one of the least expensive parts of the whole setup (only about $150 for a perfecto 75g tank)

If it covers your area, Craigslist is great for finding deals on tanks. I got a 75 gal Tenecor acrylic tank with acrylic stand, wet/dry, built-in overflow, pump, and hood for $200. It has some scratches that I have to buff out though.

(One Banana per 10 gallons is the recommended dose for celebration)

Cool! Yes do factor in everything when you're looking at the cost.

That Walmart price for a 55 is insane. I was just quoted $400 for a custom-made 6 foot 100 gallon tank and that's in half-inch glass with some custom extras. Not just your basic glass box.
That price sounds like Petsmart's fish prices here in Toronto

Martin.

great news!!

my lfs sells aquaclear 70s for $44 cdn, petcetera sells them for $66 cdn, not sure about the petsmart though...

infact, the local petcetera complained to hagen about my lfs having prices so much lower!! haha

so yea, 2- $44 filters and 2- $36 heaters is $160 right off, not even including the tank, lighting, stand or substrate!!

looking forward to spending big,
brett.

It comes with aqua clear heater/filter, thermostat, Aquaplus and waste control, one flourescent and one blue light, a couple marina plants, a guide, food, net, and other stuff I'm positive I'm forgetting. -_- It was quite the list. Definitely the best price I've seen for all this ANYWHERE.
A decent filter around here will run you close to 100-200 dollars. -_-

Not to try and change your mind but I tend to agree with Martin. I only paid $100.00 for my second hand 150 gallon long. There are deals out there. Also if you dont mind mail order. That Fish Place sells AquaClear 70s for around $34.00 dollars and Marineland 350s for $29.00
I really hope you get your big aquarium, you will find that it is easier to take care of and more fun to observe. I know its a riot to see 5 weathered loaches ripping back and forth across six feet of space.
Hello all from Happy River
I have lost count of how many tanks I have

That's the trouble, shipping to Newfoundland is so expensive.
I have no idea where I'd ever find a 70g tank for 34 DOLLARS... I've never heard tell of it!
The shipping costs to bring anything to this province is ridiculous!
