They do, but it does not seem to be as important to them as to, for example, gastros.

I checked 2 different Walmarts today just out of curiosity, both no longer carry any fish. All walled up.

According to the Walmart associate I talked to today, many, but not all Walmarts will be getting rid of their fish.

I have to say, being a former Pet's department Walmart associate, that that could not be such a bad thing. The mortality rates were always abnormally high and the living conditions were extremely poor, even with a devoted underling such as myself. I used to get in so much trouble with my manager because I would spend the entire time I worked trying to clean or improve the conditions of the tanks for the fish lol

On the other hand though... living in the middle of nowhere I don't really have any other outlets. All my fish are from Walmart. The only other place is run by one of my friend's stepdad, and apparently he has an abusive darkside. The world is a scary place.

These are the best pictures I have ever taken of a fish. It helps that they are staying still today.

This is the QT setup I have for them, there are 2 powerheads at the end and a cycled filter acting as a waterfall at the other end. This is just my QT so it will have to do until I get the 30gal setup for them. Questions, comments all are welcome thank you.

I think your tank needs more design... or any at all. No offense. But the large rocks open up all kinds of options. I love to design with large rocks!

Nice looking fish. I would really like to find some of these. I have the similar Liniparhomaloptera disparis, but have never seen vannies.
I'm sure they will be happy in that quarentine tank until the 30 is set up.

They do like the carnivore pellets and the algae wafers, thanks again for the tips mikev.

Any time.

IME, the only other common hillstream that really likes carnivore pellets is Beaufortia...This actually mey be the best other species for your tank, both are from about the same area and 6 vannies+6 beaufortia's should make a very nice tank.

Nice pix.

No hiding? IME, in the presence of more active hillstreams, they would be squeezing themselves into rocks.

A few of them hide, but mostly they are eating and clinging to the rocks, I guess the guppies don't bother them. I am really enjoying them.

My V. hainanensis never hide. They're in the 65 River-Tank with multiple other species. When I put in chunks of my frozen mix it's just a free for all bundle of Hillies and Garra attacking the bits. They certainly are anything but timid.

Martin.
