Mixing Loaches

Post by Cerys » Thu May 10, 2007 4:41 pm

I have had a Weather Loach for about a year now and was wondering if it's possible to mix this type of loach with another. The loach I am interested in is a "Horse Nosed Loach" but the lady in the petshop advised that these particular loaches can be visious towards others. Is this true?

behavior aside

a quick look at the species index yields:

Horse face loach 77-84°F (25-29°C)
weather/dojo loach 50- 77ºF (10 - 25ºC)

So, the answer is no.

Is it just me or am I starting to sound more like AngelFish?

Hi Cerys Mackay. Welcome to Loaches Online. :D

No. The Horse-faced loach (Acantopsis choirorhynchus) are very peaceful species. And the Long-nosed loach (Acantopsis octoactinotos) is known to be more aggressive with small schooling fish and ignores larger specimens. Temperature wise is also a No, Weather Loaches prefer to be kept in more lower waters than the limit of 77ºF.
