possible leak

Can anyone advize on a possible leak found coming from my tank? I happily bought 3 clown loaches yesterday, moved some rocks around (carefully i might add ) to accomodate them, plus a few plants. As i did this i noticed i was spilling a little more water than i normally do.

Today when checking on the newcomers i noticed a small crack in the plastic trim on one of the corners. Yesterday with some of the spilled water, the trim was filling up.

Could the 'leak' be from the trim only or is it a possibility ive cracked the base of the tank moving rocks around? (surely the tank is designed for such manoeuvers to be made, and therefore strong enough for such things?) Ive never had this sort of problem before.

The new loaches are fantastic, how long do you think it'l take them to settle, they seem to be ok, but im slightly concerned with them swimming up and down on 1 particular area of the tank more often than aywhere else.

I would appreciate any help with these queries.

Well, the mysterious leak is no more, so thank god that was a false alarm

But still, if anyone out there can put my mind at ease about my new loaches behaviour, id be most grateful.

I recently moved my yoyo loaches (3 of them) into their new accomodation, n after about 3 days i could only see 2. I did a thorough search for the third, but there was no sign of him anywhere..a complete disappearing act, so it would appear! Shame coz ive had them for over 2 years now.

Ive then bought 3 clown loaches yesterday, and they are lovely! 1 has gone and hidden itself away, and the other 2 are together all the time going up and down the depth of the tank in more or less the same spot. Im assuming this is some form of stress and they will need some time. My yoyo's have never done this.

If you use a HOB filter, check to see that your loach did not jump into it. I had a loach do that once.

Good news on the leak kaz.

The swimming up and down the glass in one place is what we call Loach Dancing. Many loaches, but particularly Botiine species will do this for a few days when introduced to a new tank. Even once established, if you should do some major decor changes it can also trigger this behaviour. It is somewhat stress-related.
Yoyo's will sometimes "dance" but it is particularly part of Clown behaviour. They may do this to a lesser extent once settled as a "feed us" type hello to you.



The dissapearing acts and swimming into filters is another quirk of newly introduced Botia. Once they are settled in this kind of thing lessens or stops. I guess it's all to do with investigating their new environment.

Thanks everyone for the advice.

The 3 clowns are back together and are still 'dancing' up and down the tank, but it has significantly lessened since yesterday im happy to say. And they are moving off to do other loach type stuff, grazing and hidding n the like. I think they're great and dont like to see them upset. But, as i say they seem to be getting there at least.

As far as my missing yoyo is concerned... after your advice on the filter scenario, ive had a second thorough n good look in there and i dont see any loach (partial or otherwise *yuck* thank god in a way, but still a mystery in another).

I will keep a beady eye out for any more mischief. But you gotta love loaches though n'est pas?

Martin i love the photo too, cheers...are the other loaches in the pic kubotai? they are positively dwarfed by the clowns I love em.
