Anyone good at hillstream I.D? Pls....

Post by germGB » Sat Jul 07, 2007 10:27 pm

Sorry when it comes to id'ing species i'm awful and simply not knowledable enough.
Any help would be much appreciated.
I think the last 3 are beaufortia kweiochensis and thats as far as i've got....
Although the last of the 3 doesn't have such a dark border around its finnage.

That "zebrinus" is very boldly marked though Jim. It's not one of the newer species in the Tan book is it? I really have to get the book yanno.

Number 2, could possibly be a Gastromyzon crenatus from the Tan Heok Hui book.

I noticed that the head markings in particular looked more linear than round as they appear to be in the picture i found on this site under zebrinus...
Dunno?
(look at me! trying to be clever :D ).
Aside from the sinogastromyzon requiring a less algae based diet than the others, and basic hillie care (temp, oxygen, general environment) is there any SSP specific care i should know about?
Thanks in advance.
Edited for stupidity...

I see what you mean, Jim. The Gastromyzon cranbrooki seams to hold a very square head. I wonder if germGB can get more images for us.

Can you germGB?

More pics would be great. I'm not sure if its part of the rock or not, but that fish looks as if it has a bit of a bump on the rostrum which might change the id to something else. :?

Yep, if i can get him/her to hold still for long enough.
Any particular area that'll increase the chances of an id?
Rostrum, whats a rostrum?
Pardon my ignorance.

germGB, basically views as shown in the book examples are the best. The closer you can get the better.

Germ for short, someone else had got it, probably me after a few beers...
Anyhow the loach isn't being very helpful not seen him/her all day (got a few vids of the others though) so i'll post back when he/she gets active.
Tends to hide out for about 48hrs at a time and then has a flurry of activity....
Cheers again.

Got a view from either side, but he/her refused to go on the glass...
I'll add when he/she is willing. Not the greatest shots but could be zoomed into if saved to your own computer...
In a rush, agh, ta!
