the mean fish

Post by newshound » Sat Jul 21, 2007 10:01 pm

man are eos mean little buggers!
kick the crap out of larger Modesta all the time.
Tonight I saw a eos do a weird thing on a flat rock. It was trying to bite it or something on the flat surface. Perhaps grabbing a bit of algae growing on it? The eos loaches in my tank love to tear apart my plants. One bite does it all.
The rock was tougher than the loach

Oh I've heard that Botia Eos is a really aggressive loach, but I've never been able to obtain one. How big is your modesta?

I've had some mean fish, though probably not as mean as your eos. I had a very fiesty skunk loach that wouldn't let anything near his resting spot. I've also had a large red tail shark that was more grumpy than anything. And my biggest modesta was beating up his companion modesta over a hiding place under a log before I buried that log in the sand.

Of all the botias I have had, the eos is by far the most agressive towards other loaches. There was one exception of a Modesta. One of my first modestas (now dead from skinny) was the tank ruler of a tank but never messed with the boss eos. One day though, the Modesta was grumpy and retaliated. They fought for an hour then the Eos 80-90% the size of the modesta had to retreat. IMO, although the Eos was more agressive and ill tempered, against this modesta he was no match.
120 gallon planted aquaponic tank with 10 clown loachs, first one since 1994, 1 modesta and 3 striadas.

I have had to remove all 4 of my skunks from my eos/modesta tank because they were taking a beating. Interesting that the yoyos i have don't seem to mind the aggression of the tank.
I think the eos are mature but I obtained them from someone else so I don't know. They are 4 inches in length.
Tuff buggers :D
