Downsizing tentative plans

Post by mikev » Fri Aug 03, 2007 6:50 pm

I'm thinking of decreasing the number of tanks around here....The idea is to empty a few 10g tanks into a single larger tank.

The tank should host a number of small loaches, definitely kuhlis and nothing else larger than 2"... likely rosies, L.thermalis, possibly Hara, Barbucca and Striata (while small). No large loaches, no hillstreams, no aggressive kinds. Heavily planted. Moderate current. Sand/Stones.

It seems that either 55g or 75g would do (the remaining space precludes another 6' tank, but I do have 4')... 55g is more likely at this point.

Would anyone like to opine on what else should go into this?

1. Filtering system:
Canister?
2. Type of plants?
The idea is to make it interesting...and I'd like to move beyond swords.
3. Type of lighing?
4. Dither:
The default option is D.Kyahtit, since I have them and they need a better tank... I'm thinking of a faster flow in the upper part of the tank...perhaps it would be good enough?
If not, it probably will be a microrasbora mix, or just galaxy.
5. A better species mix?

Any opinions, hints, on how to make this better are welcome.

My galaxies are quite timid and spend most of thier time hanging out in the plants. They're lovely fish, but might not be the best choice if you want a very active school.
Fast and bulbous!
