Help for lil clown plz

Post by vally136 » Sun Jul 29, 2007 3:18 pm

Hi, i have 4 small clown loaches I bought them 1 at the time from a petstore the first 3 are ok fat and healty the last one i bought was real thin -did not notice how thin till i got him home-he eats well acts ok but hes paper thin i thought he would put on some weight but hasn't. I e-mailed the place that i got him from and they ask me if he had whites on him, than sent me to a web site about clown loaches-i e-mailed them back and said no white spots on him and told them he was probably sick when i got him(I be watching them catch my fish from now on).. if anyone has an idea about what could be wrong with this lil clown plz let me know Thanks Alot Pat

Sounds like your clown has CWS - Chronic Wasting Syndrome, sometimes called "skinny disease." I was looking for a reference page on the new site for this - I thought we posted one.

Anyway, it could be CWS or it might simply be an internal parasite that is reaping the benefit of the food before the clown can.

I'm hoping Shari notices this thread and can speak to treating CWS with Levamisole. These skinny little loaches can be brought back to good health, but it can be tricky.

Ah - just found the link:

There's a lot to read on there, so maybe Shari can recap for you.

It's possible that your little chap may have "skinny disease"

Here's a good solution >> http://www.loaches.com/Members/shari2/l ... chloride-1
