Surfs up

Post by Tinman » Tue Aug 07, 2007 9:21 pm

I added a power head thru a 12" long piece of 4"PVC with a 90 degree fitting to produce current thru the tube. I added an old sponge and made a spot in the tank the clowns love to play in.This was made from leftover stuff and one new 90 degree fitting. I have this in my QT now for the chosen few that reside there this week along with my six new Botia striata 8) .This is very powerful so I am making 4 more from old parts. I still need more practice shooting pics so no complaining :)

Neat idea. Years ago, I worked in a workshop where some of the guys used to fly model planes around a pole powered by workshop compressor air. The air went through a grease-gun swivel fitting.
They started it up again and we got into speed.....go figure right. We found the planes went substantially faster if the outlet jet was encased in a tube. It pulled in more air so made the plane go in the opposite direction faster.
Eventually, we almost completely replaced old propeller type aircraft with scratch built jets and we ducted the air through the fuselage encasing the pressurised air outlet. We clocked them at around 70 mph around the pole!!!

Martin.

I like this idea. I still need to try something like this to soup up the flow in my rivertank. Be sure not to let any of the fish get into the pump fittings near the propeller if you ever turn off the pump. You saw what happened to my little clown loach.

Very nice idea Tinman! I'll bet your striata love it.
