Sad day at wal-mart

Went shopping to my local walmart today and while scanning the fish tanks i saw something that made me as hell and at the same time... there, in one of the tanks where the bodies of 6 clown loaches strewn across the tank floor and stuck in the filter, with the 2 remaining loaches not looking so good! I would have gladly bought them if we didnt have so many places to go still. I told the attendant about it and she told me she would get to it later, that she was busy restocking! How can people be so obtuse, cruel and just plain ignorant

No reason to move this thread, IMO. And that is a sad bit of news. I'm sure some people have had satisfaction (?) but I would just never want to buy aquarium fish or any other "pets" from Wal Mart.

This kind of story is repeated about too many different big-box shops. You don't want to cost someone their job just because they don't know what they're doing, but if the attendant doing the fish changes doesn't respond, you have to go higher up.

Oh, those poor millions of aquarium fish!

That sounds more like the Employees that work there (No offence to anyone on this forum that works at Wal-Mart)

I agree- this is cruel and unconscionable, but I agree with Pixelated; this is likely a case of an ignorant employee...as much as I dislike Walmart, the one here used to have a wonderful fish and small pet section. The lady that managed it knew her stuff, and the tanks were always clean and tidy and full of lively, healthy fish. Unfortunately, they apparently didn't sell enough here because that department has been shut down...no more fish or hamsters & gerbils, just supplies. It's a shame that the one described in crocodylus' post is still running- and I would definitely complain to the store manager about what was observed there!

I stopped looking in the walmart section because I felt like crying every time I did.

I'm up in Ottawa and the walmart near me no longer has a fish section. Someone mentioned that walmarts were getting out of the live fish business. I wonder if its locally, just Canada or all of walmart?

Walmart represents 33 % of my choice in Prince George, but I have yet to buy from them. They have been bringing in nice looking (2-21/2 inch) clowns lately, and I feel like rescuing them all, but I just don't have the room. The main problem is that there is no information for customers - so even if the fish survive the store, they are likely to end up in cramped quarters wherever they go. Unfortunately for most LFS it seems to be all about making money and less about helping people do what is right. The good news is that in this era of internet communication, it doesn't take too much effort to get first class info from generous, experienced experts e.g., a number of people frequenting this forum! Thank you!

Happy to report that Vancouver actually fought the bastards off, and there is still no Wal-Mart here. I'm sorry for those communities that face such stubborn overtaking of their market.
