Clamped fin on a Clown

Post by Tinman » Mon Aug 20, 2007 3:52 pm

:?: I have one Clown loach in my QT that has just gone through the Levamisol treatment twice with 3 other Clowns and 6 Dario's and a Grr Tiger that are all well on the way back from skinny. This one Clown is clamped fin. What shall I treat this one with and should I QT this further into its own say 10 gal. aquarium or treat all the fish that are currently exposed in this 55 QT .

Is the fin constantly clamped?
Notice any other differences in behavior from the other fish?
Swimming normally?
Eating normally?
How are the other fish treating this one? Where is he in the pecking order?
Color normal?
Is he/was he also thin, has he gained any weight?
Any signs of external anomalies? Dust, dots, bumps, nodules, patches, split fins, fraying, red patches/lines, swelling?

What's the temp in the tank?
Clamped fins can be caused by a mutitude of things from cold, to nerves, to nitrates, to illness of all sorts. Need to try to figure it out before you treat for anything, first. 8)
books. gotta love em!

Strictly clamped fins .Gills red and pumping fast. No other signs of weakness. Picked on a little because of sickness but holds its own. Color spectacular, fins held tight is it but definately stressed in the gills. This one is Out in current and feeding like normal but the other three clowns don't shoal as much with this one. Temp is 80-82 with the completion of the second round of Levamisole a 90%water change occured Sat night. with water from my system so no shock value from that. All is well as every one else is eating and gaining weight as well or better than expected. This is the only fish without marked improvement.

From your description Tinman this is exactley how my Clowns started, I hope this isnt anything as serious :(

As you know I sarted with Protozin and then Myxazin and I have now dosed the tank with "Interpet - anti slime and velvet" and things do look alot better.

If it was a form of velvet in the first place I would have thought the Protozin would have done something as that is based on the same ingredients as the Interpet remedy :?

I hope you sort things soon.

That looks identical to how mine looked, even down to the white edging on the tail :(

I stated earlier Dario's in this tank. I meant Striata and one Anjelicus, I need to pay more attention to names as so many of you do so my apologies for that. My question is what to treat this with and do I QT this one alone?I can easily set up a ten but I was going to treat the whole 55 as I have in the past but I would value some input here. This is the affected fish and is it contagious. It appears not. I have no program to edit video apparently after searching here so this is what I shoot only.

I really wish I could help more but if it is something similiar to what has wiped out my Clowns then I am still baffled, the anti slime and velvet treatment does seem to have done some good to the other fish but was to late to help the Clowns. The one difference with mine was that the Clowns showed signs of white spot before the tail started become frayed.

Sorry I cant be more help :(

Yes Mad Duff yours was parasite I thought,Ich infestation. This is not although they start similar. It is a bio slime coat issue this one has a fungus I think as I just completed 2- 14 day cycles with Levamisol supplimented with anti-parisite food so most parasites should be dead. I think Maracyn 2 in a ten but I am going up to the local fish store to check labels.......I value the forums opinion :)

It could be that the meds worked and done their job. Now the fish is recovering. I'm not sure what else it could be.
