Hey all,

I am new to this forum just recently bought two hillstreams. Right now they are in my shrimp tank with a lot of current. Some rocks and some drift wood. They tend to hang out a lot on the glass or the log. Is this normal behavior? Or should they be swimming all over all of the time? Just trying to figure out if they are happy or if I need to convert my other 30 gallon to a river tank.

Seriously, their behaviour is pretty natural. As you've asked the question you obviously understand the principal of a River-Tank. The strong flow is an advantage in creating natural behaviour.

If your shrimp tank features good current and aeration, it is probably OK for hillstreams. Most shrimp don't like too high temperatures and neither do hillstreams. If you have rocks in their as well as driftwood you will probably find once they settle in that the fish move around the tank and graze upon the rock surfaces. They tend to use the aquarium glass a lot when new to a tank probably because it gives them the greatest feeling of security. Sucker-bodied hillstreams tend to look rather unsettled if they cannot clamp onto a good smooth surface, particularly in the initial settling in period in a new tank.

Yes, looks like Beaufortia.....probably kweichowensis. There's some pictures in another thread here of fish that MikeV has. They look similar to what I see in your pics.
