Starting Over Again...

Post by Barb » Mon Oct 22, 2007 8:43 pm

I lost my 2 clown loaches to ich. In fact, I lost almost all of my fish to ich except for a couple of zebra danios and two serpae tetras. I have a 75 gallon tank, which I thought was big enough for clown loaches, but found out it is really the minimum size and not all that optimum. I've been looking through the list of loaches here and I've seen a few that look pretty neat. Botio Histronica, Kuboti, Rostrata, Yasuhiko Takia Sidthimunki, Yas. Nigrolineata, and Rosy Loaches. I'm trying to plan my new tank. Are there any in this list that I should stay away from or are there any great ones that I've missed? I still want to keep some danios and maybe a school of neons, and I really want to make sure that everyone has the correct amount of room.

Right now, I have a big hollow plastic log that my clown loaches used as their home after I took their castle away because I was afraid they were going to get stuck (but I might replace it with a smaller plastic log to give more open space on the bottom), and I have some honey onyx rocks, some clear quartz pieces that look like glass, and a small piece of mopani wood that an anirubus (?Sp) is growing on. Are the rocks going to be too rough? The temp in my tank usually runs between 80-82, even during the spring and fall when I don't use the AC or heat.

I guess this is a lot of questions for one post, but I'm trying to plan ahead. It will probably be several weeks before I can add any fish, since I still see a few ich spots on one of my fish.

Also, since you are the loach experts, what is the best Ich treatment for loaches?

This is a good thread if you haven't read it.

It is always recommended to do half dose if you are unsure of the chemicals used.
