Hi Hyla,
I can answer question number 1 for you:
Martin Thoene, our resident hillstream-loach guru, very kindly created those animated loaches for a group of us regular LOL'ers a little while back.
But for number 2, you'll have to wait for someone from the US to comment on.

Most of my success comes from either Live Aquaria - Drs Foster & Smith - and Anabiasdesign - yahoo group. He's an importer and brings in a few loaches from time to time. Nice to work with and he's honest about the fish he's got. He also sells on AquaBid. I've bought from people there but the best success and fish have come from the above.
Mark from Anabiasdesign has also been mentioned in TFH and is quite well know in the community. I wanted kuhlis before and he said no they were not in good shape. The same with ottos... wouldn't sell what he had. Then he got in some good looking kuhlis and I currently have 10 happy healthy ones in my tank. Join his list and do some lurking.

You should offer them various frozen foods (defrosted in tank water first of course) such as mosquito larvae, brineshrimp, daphnia etc. Bigger specimens will take slightly larger shrimp such as mysis or krill and also chopped prawns/cockles. Many loaches also relish a bit of greenfood in their diet too - algae wafers, slices of cucumber, courgette etc.
