Diatom Filter for Loach tank

Post by notoo7 » Fri May 05, 2006 7:41 pm

I was considering buying a Vortes Diatom filter. Will this replace water changes for my loach tank? Also any precautions about using this filter with my loaches?

I'm not sure I'd bother getting a Vortex. We had 1 many years ago, same design. It was very good at polishing the fine particles out of the water but a real PITA to get set up & can't be used instead of a regular HOB or canister filter, it clogs up too fast. NOTHING replaces water changes. We ran it in each tank for an hour or 2 after water changes to remove stirred up stuff & flow rate was very strong in smaller tanks as I recall. HTH

Thanks for the advise. I haven't bought a RO system yet, so its looking like my next purchase.
