they obviously don't really care. On the other hand if it is truly throughout their whole system (which it may be) think how hard it would be to treat. Would likely have to close all the tanks to sale (bad news for a fish store) for the full length of treatment, and what if they have resistant ick?

Icky situation. Emma probably knows more about treating an entire system (although maybe not, since she likely has never had such a problem ;-). Would it be more involved than a shop can handle and would it be 'worth' it (financially) to the shop to do so? Clearly this store doesn't think so...or else they are simply in denial. Though how they could be when their clowns keep coming down with ick, I don't get.

I think you should complain to both the RSPCA and the local council for the area the shop is situated in. The local council will be the ones who issue the store their pet shop licence, and if the fish are being left to suffer, they need to know about it.

Assuming that the shop change their UV bulbs on a regular basis, this would stop the whitespot from spreading from tank to tank. It may also help to reduce the rate of the spread of the infection on the affected fish, but UV's alone will not eradicate all of the free-swimming stage as not all of the free-swimmers will pass through the UV - many will find the host fish first.

The shop really needs to get some treatment into that tank pronto.

I'm afraid you are underestimating the ability of a typical store to spread ich around manually. They will move things (and often even water) between tanks, just enough to keep ich going and recurring in different tanks.

Thanks Emma,

Ironically, when I returned from the nursery I had an e mail from the owners saying that they welcomed comments from members of the public and that they had dealt with the situation. When I spoke to the guy in the store he knew nothing of my e-mail - only that I had complained on the front desk. The reply e-mail was timed at when I was actually in the store, so it would have been impossible for them to have communicated as he suggested. I also pointed out that 3 of the clowns had what I have learnt to be described as skinny disease, and I have to say they looked very sorry for themselves, with bones sticking out. I think I will take your advice as I believe I have given them ample opportunity to address this and I realise that for each day I wait it is just another day that these fish have to suffer.

Thanks for the reply :D

p.s loved the pics of your shop that I saw on the 'sticky' thread.
All weeks run up to Friday - but how quickly can you sprint from Monday.
