... hmmm, if Martin were German, I´d say, he has no concept yet... just kicks off a brainstorming to harvest ideas... :P

... I saw Martin use German words like "Chinesischer Flossensauger" ... who knows...

MARTIN ... you are NOT going to use a propeller (propelling screw) ?!

... with some smart water guidance, the main stream could be in the center - and left and right could be the return-channels. could give the "guys" additional space to stick on the guidance sheets. Depending on design of channels, different speeds may be designed, possibly more - using the "arrival" glas (changes direction - U-turn function) as additional speed. Or ... design the channels not-parrallel and gain cone/diffoser/Injecting effects...

Guidance could also be placed top/bottom.... double bottom tank...

... putting flat stones in to create shadow effects an turbulances...

... wow... good that I have to go to sleep now... possibly I had too much sun, canoeing yesterday... saw a gerat catfish though...

what do you think martin?... just don´t put an entire out-board at the tank

I´ll be with you in my thoughts .. designing....designing...

... come on give as a hint, PLEEEEEASE

I'm an 1/8th German.....Thoene is a German name right?
Chinesischer Flossensauger, I got of off Schmerlen.com.
I'm not harvesting, I'm playing with people's minds. I love the way people on here are so eager to find ways to improve their fish's lot in life.

Ahem.......(we've looked at this idea before)Image

Now, I believe that I've worked out how to accomplish this in an aquarium, and keep the whole thing reasonably compact without intruding on the fish's living space too much. Getting it to work properly and reliably will be all in the details of the design, and that may take some experimentation.Image

Ist gut yah?

*grin* I'd just be happy with a loach tank that size ;-)

So Martin, i can see the principle replace tubing with ducts (just large square tubes really) and have a large housing at one end with a honking big propeller to move the water and some baffles (sorry, "turning arrays")to smooth the flow. But how do you solve the thermal transfer problem? Falling back on aquarium equipment could it be these?

Oooooh......interesting. I wonder what that looks like and how much water it shifts? Expensive though.

No....my idea doesn't need any aquarium equipment (apart from additional conventional filters of whatever choice you prefer). You need them in any setup.

There's an absolutely simple solution to the ducting problem.....think about it (teasing)

Hallo Martin,

... das ist wirklich spannend. Du machst das ausgezeichnet...

(... consult this link for translation  http://dict.leo.org/ende?lp=ende&lang=d ... &relink=on )

... could not open the pool link yet (too many safety-devices installed....), but will work on it...

You may be surprised, after my joking introduction to my post, I was actually thinking yesterday about your name and tried to find some German meaning. In Germany, you may spell it "Thöne" (.. not sure whether, the "o" with the 2 dots on top, displays on your screen).
Could not find any meanings, off hand. May be an older name "Toene" could be plural of "tone" (musical tones. "Ton" means also "clay" ) But I am unfortunately not into languages or history, but it could ba easyly found out. If I run across skillful people I will check...

Tschuess and thanks for your "ausgezeichnet" postings

I am told the correct German pronounciation is Tour-ner, which most English speaking people interpret as Turner. My Family Anglisised the name because of wartime prejudices into Thoe- een.

I have lived over 50 years with a name people have great difficulty getting correct. I spell it, they write Theone.....and pronounce it Thee-oh-nee.....to which I say, "I'm not Italian".

When I point out they wrote down The One, they usually chuckle with embaressment and go, "Oh yeah!"

So I've discovered that if people really can't get it right, it's easiest to tell them to remember "The One" and just reverse the middle two letters...THEN, they get it right.

You have seriously exceeded my German understanding, but I will see if I can translate your words later.....

Hello Martin,

"Turner" sounds very good, the last "r" should be swallowed... I could not find a better example...

With my first name, I was surprised, I had less "difficulties" in Toronto and Troy(Detroit) than in Europe. Lived in those cities for 6 years.
Unfortunately I had no Tank that time. I did a lot outstanding canoing up north... still remember that quality time.

I checked the pool- page, looks interesting and technically efficient for fishtanks... perhaps a test with a propeller of a little radio controlled model-boat ...

I think, we all are pretty curious of your prototype.

Gruss

I had always assume that Thoene was a Danish name, but given the complex nature of the Schleswig-Holstein question it could be either I guess.

Wasserscheu.

Ciao

TKK was making fun of the dictionary showing just one German word for very many English ones, however "excellent, exquisite,perfect..." exists also in German, even in very similar spelling...

wishing a perfect day

bin nicht Belgier, aber Schotte

Wolfram thought I was a Belgian because I post from here. Reminds me of the retort of the Duke of Wellington (born in Dublin) to someone who suggested he was Irish, 'just because you are born in a stable doesn't make you a horse'

... haha  ... I love it... how would you like that "Kapenta Kid", fellow countryman...? ... I had a cool Scottish friend in Toronto...

... I am Austrian.

Sooo, I am as much German as "KK" is Belgian, except, I can speak the same language as at home...almost...

Hope Martin is doing better with his RT2 than me with my new Tank... I did not get further yet, except some planing...

EDIT:

... actually I have some "nonsense" to report. I got some "cinnamons" (black kuhli) and one was rather thin, Clowns and Abo. dont leave ANY food for them and are quite rough browsing for food... so I glued a shelter from some acrylic boards (works also as a "porch" for one of clowns caves). fish find the transparent sheets quit interesting...looks aweful though... "everybody" accepted it very fast as a toy and it was fun watching... was a perefect feeding box for all pangios. UNTIL THE ABORICHTYS INVADED and conquered it today... this fresh and fat little guy was on diet and now gets through the holes... hmmm ... however as I am too lazy to adapt holes, feeding at many "hotspots" at the same time allowes anough food for anyone now...

... the "cinnamons" are growing much faster than the semicincta (Kuhli loach,...?) sooo everyone is well feed now anyway.
I am only clear about the "cinnamons", the "normal" ones may be even differnt kinds, a nice mix though...

--- How to safely determine those varoius kuhlis?, they are all quite similar, and different sites, use various names...

Gruss
