Just out of curiosity, what accessories are you using to get light to the subject now?

With the long 105mm macro lens, I have trouble getting light from the built-in flash to a subject that is closer than 1-2 feet from the front of the lens because the light is blocked.

My accessories are a P-TTL external flash, a P-TTL sync cord, a flash bracket that screws in where you would put a tripod. The flash bracket is modified with a tripod head so that the flash unit is adjustable to any direction or degree. This setup allows me to point the flash down or aim the flash directly at an object 2 inches from the front of the lens.

I would have never guess, but one of my best no regret purchace was the P-TTL flash. The performance of it makes me never want to use the built in flash. It automatically exposes everything even if I bounce it of the ceiling. They are expensive but worth it IMO.

Cool, thanks for the info. I hope to get a new digicam here for xmass... wanted an slr but just cant fork over the dough, especially with the capability, features, and pricing for example of the canon S5 (p&s). I can get the external flash and macro lens and still have less invested than a XTi with no accessories (well depending on how much I spend on a flash unit, they can be pricey).
